My girls came to visit me! Ten years ago since these tiny little twins in school uniforms walked into my classroom where I was running the after-school childcare program and completely stole my heart. Meeting Maezi and Carli and their parents, brother and grandparents has made such an impact on my life and blessed me in a thousand ways over the last decade. Since all their friends at home in TX are celebrating their quinceañeras, their parents thought they should get to celebrate with a trip to Charleston. Yes!! It was a surprisingly cold Spring week here while they were visiting, but we didn’t let that stop us from exploring all over town and eating ice cream at the beach. 🙂
I’ve been documenting Carli and Maezi with my camera since they were 5 years old and I was just starting out in photography (you can look at a couple of my earlier shoots with them in McKinney and Smithville if you’re interested). They’ve been with me through all my experimenting in studio lighting and transition to natural light portraiture, and even starred in a stop action film I made for my senior year of college! So of course we wanted to photograph them in Downtown Charleston for their 15th birthday. Maezi brought a pretty new romper and ideas to do a little more bohemian style for this shoot. Carli is about as fond of getting dressed up as I was at her age…which means not at all. Thankfully she loves me and has gotten used to me playing with her hair and putting her in front of my camera over the years. Also, I found out she is literally the cutest thing ever in a crown braid! We decided to split up the two shoots into two days, so for the second part we went to Magnolia Plantation and wandered through the beautiful gardens and bamboo forests there.
After our adventures in Texas, New York, Georgia and Charleston, I can’t wait to see where the next decade takes us!
