While we were planning our recent family trip back to Terceira, the island in the Azores we grew up on, my sister Erinn and I knew we wanted to do a shoot with her new son. We decided on this spot at Baías da Agualva, both because it tends to be sunny here even when it’s storming on the rest of the island, and because it’s just so epic. Like all trips home, there’s never enough time to fit everything in, so we ended up rushing here straight from swimming with about five minutes left til sunset. Trying to juggle multiple cameras barefoot (long story) while walking across volcanic rocks is not for the faint of heart, I’ll tell you. My brother-in-law carrying their 5 month old across them was equally harrowing, but no one fell and we walked away with some beautiful photos from a place that means a lot to us.
